Quilt! Knit! Stitch!

Quilt! Knit! Stitch! is coming to Portland, OR on August 14-16, and I have 2 pieces in the Fabulous Fiber exhibit!    The show is brand new, and managed by the great folks at Quilts, Inc.
Lunatic Fringe by Wendy L Starn
Lunatic Fringe is a knitted shawl, original design, hand knitted by me, using 2 strands of cotton  yarn throughout.  I graphed the design on knitter's graph paper and learned some new techniques as I went along.
Orb Weaver by Wendy L Starn
Orb Weaver, also a shawl, is midnight blue velvet, machine stitched with metallic silver thread and hand beaded with hundreds of clear iridescent seed beads to look like drops of dew.  Each bead is hand knotted on the inside.  I also made the fringe using chainette yarn and larger iridescent beads.

I won't be able to be at the show, but if you are lucky enough to attend, enjoy!

Cover Girl!

My 3 quilts are back home from Chicago and Houston.  In the box was a program from each show, which is when I discovered that my quilt is on the cover of the program for the Chicago show!  It was in magazine ads for the show, and on a postcard, and a class catalog as well.  Out of several hundred quilts in the show, mine was chosen.  What an honor!  Thank you, Quilts, Inc.

Portrait of Greco

Greco is my son’s cat.  She’s the newest in a long line of cats that have spent time with me and grown up with my children.

The portrait was developed from a photograph by the artist.  The quilt includes hand dyed fabrics by the artist, and extensive threadwork. Greco “helped” out with the sewing of this quilt by napping in the room while I was sewing and trying to explore the sewing machine.
