Phoebis Agarithe

My work is going to be in a book, Dare to Dance, to be published in June!  It's already available for pre-order on Amazon.  Here's some info about my piece:

This quilt is inspired by the Large Orange Sulphur butterfly, native to my state of Louisiana.  While researching butterflies, I discovered that the Large Orange Sulphur has hidden UV patterns on its wings, visible only to animals with UV perception.

Butterfly and background fabrics were hand dyed in the artist’s own unique colors and patterns, and the lower edge of the quilt is shaped to the contour of the butterfly’s wing.  The UV patterns are layered with a slightly iridescent organza. The body was made with threadwork, and colored pencil shading helps the image come to life.

What a lovely quilt, I wish I could see it in really life to see the details. Is Dare to Dance a book of your work?

Thank you! You can click on the picture to make it larger. The book is a collection of different artists' work made for a challenge.

Beautiful! Am I correct in thinking the bottom of the quilt follows the lines of the butterfly? Love that detail! And the quilting detail is phenomenal too.
I'm kind of obsessed with butterflies and caterpillars right now, since I just designed and made a quilt using both :)
