Life is Short:  Eat Dessert First!

Quilting energy comes from that extra food group--the chocolate one!  Here is a whimsical look at a few of my favorite desserts, primarily constructed from silk drapery samples and remnants.  I did most of my image research on Pinterest, leading at least one friend who follows my boards to wonder about the sudden proliferation of dessert recipes, most of them chocolate.  Just research, but if you feel like cooking, I'd be happy to taste-test any of them, with a nice cup of tea, of course!

15 x 24 inches, cotton, silk, and synthetic fabrics. Fused and machine quilted.This piece was not accepted for the exhibit in Houston, but I do have 4 other quilts and 2 photos that are there this week!  You can see them if you scroll down to my previous posts.

Here's Looking At You!

I shipped 4 quilts to the International Quilt Festival yesterday; they are on their way!
The title of each quilt is below it; on the bottom line is the Special Exhibit it will be a part of.
Today's task is to tweak a fiber piece a bit and hand deliver to the Alexandria Museum of Art for the September Competition show, opening Sept. 6. Update! Two photos were selected for the Eye of the Quilter exhibit, also at Quilt Festival! Photos and exhibit map below!

Colorful!

I've made 3 quilts recently, and none of them can be published on the web yet due to entry rules for various events.  Two of them WILL be published in a book next spring!  The book is tentatively titled Dare to Dance:  An Artist's Interpretation of Joy, and the author is Mary Kerr.

Pleinweave, made several years ago from fabric I spray-dyed especially for this quilt, and very carefully cut and pieced to keep the original color flow.  The pattern is a traditional basket lattice.

I made several smaller pieces from the leftover dyed fabrics, and more black, of course.

Update:  Look for two of my quilts at the International Quilt Festival in Houston this fall in the "Tactile Architecture" and "In the American Tradition" exhibits!  Big happy dance!
Second update:  Look for a third quilt in  the "Hands All Around" exhibit!  Holy cow!

October: Azure and November: Little Cat Feet

October: Azure and November: Little Cat Feet were constructed for the Contemporary Fiber Artists of Louisiana show, Elemental Layers: Earth, Air, Water, Fire which was exhibited at the Louisiana State Arboretum in June.  Each piece is comprised of several sheer layers.

 October: Azure  materials: organza, chiffon, netting, handpainted cotton fabric,
fused fiber leaves, plastic produce bags, wood.

  November: Little Cat Feet materials: chiffon, organza, netting, cotton fabric, wood
